Information about the sculptures

Different types of serpentine

Serpentine is a natural stone of volcanic origin. There are different types of serpentine, each with its own structure, colour and hardness. We have garden statues with different types of serpentine, such as

Springstone

Springstone is a hard natural stone type with a high iron content. Springstone is mined in shallow stone quarries in Africa. The colour of a springstone sculpture is anthracite/black and brown. Because of its density, springstone can be polished to a high gloss.A statue made of springstone is hardy and therefore very suitable for the garden.

Opal stone

Opal stone is a green/brown natural stone. Opal stone is a medium-hard stone type with a fine texture. The hardness of the stone determines its colour. The darker the colour, the harder the stone is.
An opal stone sculpture is also hardy and thus suitable as a sculpture for your garden.

Black serpentine

This stone is scratch-resistant and retains its beauty for many years. It is the perfect sculpture material because no matter how rough the weather is, it doesn’t show signs of wear and tear. Marble stone looks stunning no matter where you install it.

Cobalt stone

Cobaltstone is a medium-hardy stone with a purple/red/green colour. It contains metals wich give it a silver glitter sometimes. The stone is a beautifull deep color making it perfect for sculptures to really jump out.

White Jaspa

White Jasper is a naturally occurring gemstone in opaque white. Jasper is a variety of quartz that may contain up to 20 percent foreign materials or inclusions, including organic material and mineral oxides, which determine the color, pattern and appearance of the stone. Uniformly colored jasper is uncommon but not unheard of; usually jasper is multicolored, spotted or banded. This stone is opaque, even in thin slices, and takes a high polish.

Mega stone

Mega stone is a solid natural stone that comes in a variety of colors, the most popular of which is solid black from Zimbabwe and sometimes the black comes with small patches of bronze golden glitter or silver glitter. After polishing, it has a smooth and shiny finish with a matte appearance.

Maintenance of the sculptures

The maintenance of a sculpture from Africa is fairly simple.

Cleaning

You should remove bird droppings as soon as possible with lukewarm water. The surfaces of an African statue are rough, hammered, polished or filed.

The rough part of the sculpture needs no maintenance. Any deposits can be removed with soapy water and a soft brush.

Dull spots may appear on the polished part of the sculpture. This can happen because sunlight absorbs the wax. These dull spots can easily be made fresh again by applying clear wax to the sculpture. We recommend applying the wax to the image with a brush or cloth and rubbing it out with a dry cloth after a few minutes.

Scratches

If there is a scratch on your sculpture, first try applying wax. If there is a deeper scratch or damage, you can sand it away with waterproof sandpaper to a fineness grit of 1000. The fineness of the grit is important because the sculpture needs to be polished fine enough to regain its luster.

The sanded part of a natural stone statue can be heated with a gas burner and smeared with wax. Then let the sculpture cool and polish out the wax with a cloth. Sometimes this process has to be repeated several times. The wax causes the pores to close so there is less dirt on them.
